Samantha Baldwin knew that she wanted to attend an HBCU to further her studies, and she knew she found the right one when she discovered JCSU.

Baldwin, who will be graduating from the Master of Social Work (MSW) program, says JCSU has given her opportunities to not only learn more about social work and its functions, but also learn more about herself as a future advocate for disadvantaged populations.

“I’ve learned the importance of being an African-American female and the power I have,” said Baldwin. “Also, to question all information I have been exposed to or taught, but most of all, to not be afraid to voice my concerns or my perspective.”

During her time at JCSU, Baldwin has been inducted into several honor societies, including the Omicron Pi chapter of Phi Alpha, the National Society of Leadership and Success, the National Association of Social Workers and the XI Lambda chapter of Sigma Tau Delta.

She says a standout part of her experience was being elected the MSW student president of the Student Government Association.

Baldwin thanked God, her family and friends, her cohort, her professors and her internship placements for helping her grow into the MSW graduate she has become. From JCSU, she thanked Dr. Latoya Brooks-Keys, Nikole Kidd, Sammy Caldwell and Dr. Melvin Herring.

After graduation, Baldwin plans to spend more time with her family and pursue a position working with families experiencing homelessness or incarceration.
