Sydlie Fleurimond boldly decided to leave her small town of Hamden, Conn., and travel more than 11 hours away to attend 芭乐视频. What started as a love for the family-oriented environment and the track and field program developed into endless opportunities for Fleurimond.

鈥淭he professors, staff and faculty care for you on a higher level and want to see you go far in life,鈥 she said. 鈥淎s a student at JCSU, I鈥檝e learned not only from textbooks but also from real-life experiences.鈥

During her time at JCSU, Fleurimond, where she has studied Political Science with a minor in Pre-Law, has been involved with several activities. She has served as a Golden Bull Ambassador for the Admissions Department, captain of the Debate Team, member of the 100 Club and Track and Field Team, a member of the Gamma Lambda chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., and served in several leadership roles in the Student Government Association (SGA).

Fleurimond says serving as the 2023-24 SGA president profoundly influenced her life as a student.

鈥淭hrough this experience, I learned the importance of effective communication, empathy and servant leadership,鈥 said Fleurimond. It empowered me to amplify the concerns and aspirations of my peers, fostering a sense of unity and empowerment within our student body. This opportunity not only shaped my leadership style but also fueled my passion for advocacy and community engagement, inspiring me to continue making a positive impact long after my tenure as SGA president.鈥

Fleurimond plans to take her passion for advocacy to the next level as she intends to further her education by pursuing a degree in Law. She said she is committed to continuing her education and 鈥済aining the necessary skills to contribute meaningfully to the field of law.鈥

Fleurimond thanked Dr. Davida Haywood and Tarji Caldwell for their guidance throughout her time at JCSU, and credits Dr. Laurie Porter for being a 鈥渟teadfast source of support and guidance鈥 throughout her collegiate journey. She also thanked her SGA cabinet members, line sisters, teammates and friends for their time together studying, laughing and supporting one another through challenging times.

鈥淭heir unwavering belief in my potential has truly made a lasting impact on my academic and personal growth,鈥 she said. 鈥淚t鈥檚 been a pleasure serving as the 2023-24 SGA president. One-hundred Beatties Ford Road will forever be my home!鈥
