I am Dr. Candace Viada--a chemistry instructor, a pharmacist, and a US Army veteran. I recently began my teaching journey here at Johnson C Smith University as an Instructor of Chemistry. It has been quite a pleasure to have a hand in inspiring students to pursue their wildest STEM dreams and to let nothing stop them. My background is in pharmacy, as I have completed my Doctor of Pharmacy degree (PharmD) from Creighton University of Omaha, Nebraska. I have enjoyed being able to talk to students firsthand about the world of pharmacy and answer any questions they may have about pursuing it as a career. It has been fun having the opportunity to incorporate a pharmaceutical perspective into the chemistry department. It is my second year teaching here at JCSU, and I have already had a hand in serving as a research mentor for numerous students, whether working on their senior exit research projects or as scholars who were admitted into the McNair Scholars Program. I have also worked as a research mentor for several of our students under the Minority Science and Engineering Improvement Program (MSEIP) grant. I emphasize to the students the importance of resiliency, an important life skill gained through my military term. I look forward to continuing to make an impact on the lives of many students here at JCSU.
