Dr. Gregory Petersen is a professor of Sport Management and Fitness. He has instructed on every level of education from kindergarten through undergraduate seniors in college. His teaching career spans more than 20 years (elementary, middle, high school and college.) During his educational endeavors, Dr. Petersen has participated in and excelled in several sports, including football, track, tennis, baseball, basketball, and lacrosse. He has coached girls' middle and high school basketball and JV softball. He has also coached high school track, where he sent eight of his track athletes to the state final in his first year of coaching. Serving as a volunteer coach for one year in track for Johnson C. Smith. Coach Petersen also coached men's summer professional basketball in the now-defunct XBA for the Union City/Queen City Slamm, where he also served as a part owner. Most recently, he coached the men's and women's tennis teams here at °ÅÀÖÊÓƵ, where he led the women's team to two consecutive CIAA finals, finishing second in both years. In the professional ranks, Gregory has been working for the NFL's Carolina Panthers for 28 years and, before that, the Dallas Cowboys for one year in their respective Communications Departments. In diversifying his sport management resume, he has also worked for the Charlotte FC of MLS (soccer) and Crown Legacy FC of MLS Next Pro (minor league). Dr. Gregory Petersen is most proud of the fact that his continuing involvement in the sports industry has led to opening the doors for his students.
