Jennifer C. Joyner serves as the director of the Smith Institute for Research, Career Development and Postgraduate Readiness at Johnson C Smith University (JCSU). Jennifer is a thoughtful and deliberate leader who understands what it takes to build an authentic, high-performing program. Knowing the importance of exposure and education, Jennifer worked toward an Undergraduate Degree at Belmont Abbey in Business Administration, then realized she wanted to have a greater impact to connect people with opportunities to grow their careers and prepare them to showcase the skills that they must possess to thrive in the 21st-century workplace.

In her quest for personal and professional growth, she received her master's degree in Organizational Management and Leadership from Pfeiffer University. During that time, she enjoyed over 15 years of service in corporate America at a Fortune 500 company, the Vanguard Group of Investments, which managed trillions of dollars in assets.

Jennifer joined the North Carolina Community College system as Executive Director of Apprenticeships, Special Programs, and Marketing. She transitioned to Goodwill Industries as the Career Navigation Director. There, Jennifer led a staff of over 20 career navigation coaches who served the Charlotte Metro area. Her Career Navigation Coaches assisted participants in holistic goal setting, career readiness, and employment services that prepared Jennifer for her current dream role at Johnson C Smith University.

Ms. Joyner is a lifetime member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. In her spare time, Jennifer volunteers at her church, mentors young people, enjoys reading, curating art, and traveling abroad with her daughter, Khadijah.
