CHARLOTTE, N.C./May 31, 2018听鈥撎爬质悠 has partnered with Google to pilot Google's Computer Science Summer Institute (CSSI) Extension program.
The CSSI Extension program is a free 3-week on-campus summer experience for students admitted to JCSU for Fall 2018. The program runs from July 7-28, 2018 at JCSU. Students will receive laptops; learn how to code in JavaScript, Python, HTML, and CSS; interact with Google engineers; and visit the Google office in Atlanta. Students who live more than 100 miles from the university will receive a stipend to offset the cost of travel.
"We are excited to continue this partnership with Google. Last year's pilot was a great success,鈥 said Terik Tidwell, director of Innovation at JCSU. 鈥淪tudents built some dynamic web applications and created a community that helped them transition into the university. This year we hope to expand on this opportunity for our students.鈥
Last summer, 90 percent of the students admitted to the program ended up enrolling at JCSU. Of that 90 percent, all completed their freshman year, and 1 in 5 received an internship or participated in a summer research project. JCSU is the only Historically Black College or University running a CSSI program with Google.
