Growing up in Zimbabwe, ������Ƶ Information Systems Engineering student Tinotenda Musingarimi ’25 had trouble accessing technology.

Musingarimi knows that a bright future is built on hard work and determination, which is why he is seeking out opportunities to network and build his skills in the IT field.

������Ƶ students kicked off the week with an inspiring program focused on reparations as a response to “The Big Payback,” a film that follows a city alderman’s fight for local reparations.

The program featured appearances from “The Big Payback” co-directors Whitney Dow and seasoned actress and activist Erika Alexander.��

������Ƶ’s Communication Arts department was invited to send one student journalist to attend a White House briefing, and they decided to send senior Jayla DeBoles.

The briefing was hosted by Keisha Lance Bottoms, the senior advisor to the President for Public Engagement, and featured a visit from Vice President Kamala Harris.

A six-person debate team from ������Ƶ recently traveled to Raleigh for the annual North Carolina Independent Colleges and Universities (NCICU) Ethics Bowl.

������Ƶ organizations and academic programs will be debuting a number of events in celebration of Black History Month throughout February.

But I Am Black History Week, put on by the Office of Student Leadership and Engagement, the JCSU Royal Court and the Golden Bulls Activity Committee (GBAC) will host daily events from Feb. 13 to 17.

While some faculty and students spent their winter break home with family celebrating the holidays, Criminology major Alexis Lawson ’23 flew to Hawaii with Dr. Anita Bledsoe-Gardner, professor of Criminology, to present collaborative research at the International Academic Forum (IAFOR[BSD1]) Conference.

“This was more than an academic trip,” said Lawson, who visited Hawaii last year for a similar presentation. “I wanted experience giving another presentation because I could add it to my resume. Plus, it was Hawaii, so why not go again?”

JCSU hosted the MLK Peace Breakfast on Tuesday in Grimes Lounge after a hiatus due to the pandemic. ��


Reinstituted by Kenyatta V. Sanders-Foreman, instructional technology librarian, and the Division of Student Affairs, the Peace Breakfast paid homage to Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. The program presented words of wisdom from speakers who informed attendees how they can continue to live the dream King longed to become a reality.

Grammy award-winning artist Anthony Hamilton paid a visit to ������Ƶ’s Bull Pen on Thursday to serenade a crowd of students and introduce his newest artist, JxHINES, a 2015 graduate of JCSU’s Business Marketing program.

Purity Gumede ’25, John Josiah ’24 and Tanaka Mbavarira ’24 were recently named University Innovation Fellows by Stanford University’s Hasso Plattner Institute of Design (d.school) program.

X’Orion Richmond ’22 knew the last thing he wanted to happen after graduating was to go out into the world jobless.

So, the Charlotte native took the bull by the horns to steer himself down the best career path possible with the help of the JCSU Center for Career and Postgraduate Readiness and the Department of Health and Human Performance (HHP).
