Miss North Carolina, Alexandra Badgett, met with students at °ÅÀÖÊÓƵ during a College Tour in conjunction with Miss Taste of Charlotte. Badgett, a Charlotte native, is hoping to recruit more African American women for pageants.

JCSU Mourns the Death of Dr. Wilbert Greenfield, 10th President

President Clarence D. Armbrister, J.D., Ìýannounces the passing of Dr. Wilbert Greenfield, 10thÌýPresident of °ÅÀÖÊÓƵ. During Greenfield’s tenure from 1973-1982, he strengthened the morale of the University by gaining support from multiple government agencies, developing an Honors program designed to inspire scholarly achievements and developing an Archival Center to preserve campus and community heritage. The Johnson-Seabrook Education Building was constructed under his leadership in 1977. The Board of Trustees named a newly built housing facility for approximately 200 students as Wilbert Greenfield Hall in his honor in 1984.

Perkins Employee Lends a Helping Hand

If you have attended °ÅÀÖÊÓƵ within the last quarter century, then you likely know Miss Shirley Bertha. The Floor Supervisor in the dining hall has worked at JCSU for the last 24 years. During her time here, she has mentored, prayed and guided a number of students in need. So it was no surprise when she was seen helping a student on the first day of class.

Student projects examine housing, healthcare and food in Charlotte’s Historic West End

This summer 11 students presented their research in the New Science Center auditorium on the campus of Johnson C Smith University. It was all a part of an eight-week Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) created and funded by the National Science Foundation (NSF). As a collaboration among Davidson College, JCSU, and the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, this project places students in research settings alongside faculty members and key community players to define and creatively address social problems in the neighborhoods that surround Beatties Ford Road in Charlotte.

JCSU participates in second annual HBCU Diversity in Tech Summit

°ÅÀÖÊÓƵ is one of 34 Historically Black Colleges and Universities to participate in the second annual HBCU Diversity in Tech Summit. This year’s summit was held on the campus of Howard University in Washington, D.C. The event also included Congresswoman Alma Adams Ph.D., members of the HBCU Caucus and 47 leading companies in the technology industry.Ìý

Tennis Programs Named ITA All-Academic Team, Six Players Honored as All-Academic Scholar-Athletes

The °ÅÀÖÊÓƵ women's tennis team was named to the 2019 Intercollegiate Tennis Association All-Academic Team and six Golden Bulls earned individual ITA Scholar-Athlete honors, the ITA announced Thursday.ÌýThis year the Intercollegiate Tennis Association saw an increase in qualifying teams and scholar-athletes.ÌýAll-Academic honors were awarded to 940 teams and thousands of scholar-athletes.Ìý

New Director of Public Safety, Jermaine Cherry, outlines plans for 2019-20 school year

°ÅÀÖÊÓƵ’s new Director of Public Safety, Jermaine Cherry, is wasting no time getting to work. The chief officially joined in July and is outlining his plan for the school year, before students arrive for the fall semester. With a background in campus policing, at East Carolina University and North Carolina A&T State University, Cherry is hoping to bring his expertise of partnerships, student engagement and traditional community policing to JCSU.
