After an extensive national search, °ÅÀÖÊÓƵ announces the appointment of Dr. Karen D. Morgan as senior vice president for Academic Affairs (SVPAA).

°ÅÀÖÊÓƵ announces the appointment of Rochelle D. King as director of Financial Aid. King currently serves as assistant director of Financial Aid at Livingstone College where she is responsible for budgetary compliance, program disbursements, and staff training. She will assume her new role at JCSU on April 1.

Dr. Helen Caldwell is credited with creating what is now known as the School of Social Work on the campus of °ÅÀÖÊÓƵ, in which she serves as dean. As a social worker of nearly 40 years, she prides herself on her work, and the impact she’s made on faculty and students at the University.

Dr. Terza Lima-Neves, associate professor of Political Science °ÅÀÖÊÓƵ, took a different approach to teaching her hip-hop class, POL 491: Seminar on Black Women and Hip-Hop music. The course, intended to be a collaborative effort between students and the professor, is the first of its kind at JCSU.

°ÅÀÖÊÓƵ has not one, but two Forbes under 30 Scholars. Ramoya Grandison ’19, and Anthony Edwards ’21, attended the Forbes under 30 annual summit in Detroit October 27 – 30, 2019, where the best young leaders, founders and creators come together to connect, learn, teach and build.

Professor Jemayne King, who teaches Sole Food: Digestible Sneaker Culture at °ÅÀÖÊÓƵ, knows all too well the value sneakers have on trends. King’s class is the only one of its kind taught on a collegiate campus in the world. His niche has gained him global media coverage, most recently with ESPN’s docuseries, SneakerCenter.

November is recognized as National Marrow Awareness Month, which honors the people who donate stem cells and bone marrow to help give others a second chance at life. This year Dr. Antonia Mead, professor of Health Education, donated her stem cells to a blood cancer patient.

If you have attended °ÅÀÖÊÓƵ within the last quarter century, then you likely know Miss Shirley Bertha. The Floor Supervisor in the dining hall has worked at JCSU for the last 24 years. During her time here, she has mentored, prayed and guided a number of students in need. So it was no surprise when she was seen helping a student on the first day of class.

°ÅÀÖÊÓƵ is one of 34 Historically Black Colleges and Universities to participate in the second annual HBCU Diversity in Tech Summit. This year’s summit was held on the campus of Howard University in Washington, D.C. The event also included Congresswoman Alma Adams Ph.D., members of the HBCU Caucus and 47 leading companies in the technology industry.Ìý

°ÅÀÖÊÓƵ’s new Director of Public Safety, Jermaine Cherry, is wasting no time getting to work. The chief officially joined in July and is outlining his plan for the school year, before students arrive for the fall semester. With a background in campus policing, at East Carolina University and North Carolina A&T State University, Cherry is hoping to bring his expertise of partnerships, student engagement and traditional community policing to JCSU.
