Civic, community and city leaders gathered in a packed Jane M. Smith Memorial Church on the campus of °ÅÀÖÊÓƵ for the kick-off of a $250 million community-wide partnership to advance racial equity in Charlotte. °ÅÀÖÊÓƵ will receive $80 million from the initiative to help the University transform into a top-tier, career-focused HBCU.

Keiona Marshall ’22 was awarded a $5,000 scholarship by the Philadelphia Foundation, the organization which oversees the Luther and Mary Ida Vandross Scholarship. It is the highest amount awarded for the scholarship.

Students in the Public Speaking and Communications class mentored and taught young entrepreneurs through a virtual service learning project in partnership with the Small Impressions Child Development Center in Taylors, S.C. During summer 2021, the children created their own businesses such as making personalized tumbler cups, setting up thrift stores, selling tie-dye t-shirts and even a car wash.Ìý

Ambassador Katherine Tai, the 19th U.S. Trade Representative, provided students with a unique learning opportunity when she answered their questions and educated them on U.S. trade policies during her campus visit.

°ÅÀÖÊÓƵ's 2022 U.S. News and World Report rankings show proof of the positive momentum happening on campus. In the Historically Black Colleges and Universities category,ÌýJCSU climbed six spots to #30Ìý(tie). It was good enough for JCSU to remain the highest ranked private HBCU in North Carolina.ÌýFor the top performers in social mobility atÌýnational liberal arts institutions, JCSU catapulted from #178 to #13.

°ÅÀÖÊÓƵ freshmen returned to tradition on Sept. 9, 2021, as they were welcomed to our campus learning community in-person as part of the Opening Convocation.

The °ÅÀÖÊÓƵ family is saddened by the death ofÌýDr.ÌýRobert L. Albright,ÌýwhoÌýservedÌýasÌý11thÌýPresidentÌýfrom 1983-1994. AlbrightÌýpassed onÌýSept. 18, 2021. Ìý

On Aug. 31, 2021, educational organizations and leadership from all 10 accredited HBCUs in North Carolina convened on the campus of °ÅÀÖÊÓƵ for the first NC10 Conference. The Center for Racial Equity in Education (CREED) led an initiative where they traveled to all 10 of North Carolina's HBCUs to have conversations with each intuitions' leadership to learn more about the themes and challenges each face.

°ÅÀÖÊÓƵ and Gaston College officially joined forces today to help their students achieve their goal of a Bachelor’s degree. In a signing ceremony held this morning at the °ÅÀÖÊÓƵ campus in Charlotte, both college presidents, Clarence Armbrister of JCSU and Dr. John Hauser of Gaston College, signed a joint Memorandum of Understanding outlining a new relationship which will enable qualified Gaston College graduates to have direct-entry admission to °ÅÀÖÊÓƵ to pursue their degree.

One JCSU student had an "out of this world" experience this summer and was named an Esports tournament champion.
