The pandemic didn’t stop Alexys Gabriel ‘22 from gaining experience needed to fulfill her dreams of a job on Capitol Hill. The junior, who majors in business administration with a concentration in marketing, spent the summer as a congressional intern in the House of Representatives, dividing her time between Representative Alma Adams [NC-D-12] and Representative Mark Walker [NC-R-06].

Ahead of the fall 2020 semester, °ÅÀÖÊÓƵ is taking top honors in a new survey released by Zippia. According to the career expert site, Charlotte’s HBCU is the best small college in the state when it comes to job placement for students.

August is Black Philanthropy Month, a time to recognize the importance of Black philanthropists in advancing Black organizations, institutions and causes. Shirley J. Hughes, the first woman to serve as chair of the °ÅÀÖÊÓƵ Board of Trustees, is a noted philanthropist in her hometown of Minneapolis and endows a scholarship at JCSU. She was inducted in JCSU’s Golden Bull Giving Society, which honors donors who have given from $100,000 to $499,000 to the University.

ÌýAnother reason to Hold High the Gold and Blue! °ÅÀÖÊÓƵ's Sport Management Program ranks #17 on theÌý2020 Best Colleges for Sports Management in AmericaÌýlist, according to Niche. In addition, JCSU is listed as the third best Sport Management Program in the Carolinas and the second best in North Carolina. The University is the only HBCU in the top 20 of 299 schools.

The COVID-19 pandemic has forced life to change for so many of us. Despite the additional stresses the pandemic has had on our lives, many people have been able to unite for good causes, including our alumni who have donated to the °ÅÀÖÊÓƵ in many ways. Most recently, by offering words of advice to current students.

Anika Cobb ’13 was recently hired as the director of marketing and communications at Allen University.

Upon graduating from °ÅÀÖÊÓƵ in 1994, Dr. Regina Boyd ‘94, a three-year generation alumna, began working in the CMS system as a kindergarten teacher at Collinswood Elementary School. After teaching at Collinswood, she became part of the leadership team and assisted with the establishment of Collinswood Dual Language Academy.

°ÅÀÖÊÓƵ announces the appointment of Erna D. Perkins Jones as director of Facilities. Perkins Jones comes to JCSU from Goodwill Industries of the Southern Piedmont in Charlotte. She will assume her role at JCSU on July 14.
