Cheryl Curtis appointed to academic publications board
Dr. Cheryl Curtis was appointed publications board coordinator for the American College Personnel Association (ACPA) on June 1, 2018. Over the course of the three-year appointment, she will serve as the liaison between the editors of all 10 ACPA publications, amplifying the published perspectives of diverse student, faculty and staff researchers.
JCSU lands major grants for student research
芭乐视频 was recently awarded several new grant awards, which will be used to increase the rigor of student research projects. The National Science Foundation awarded JCSU $114,279 for support of a project entitled 鈥淣SF REU Site: Examining the Intersection of Food, Housing, and Healthcare.鈥
Medical intern sees breakthrough in the lab
Taneva Bush 鈥19 is steadily progressing on her goals to become a doctor. She took an intensive 10-week internship in Summer 2018, as part of the Undergraduate Research Fellowship program at Cincinnati Children鈥檚 Hospital Medical Center in Ohio. It was the second time around for Bush, who鈥檇 done an initial fellowship last year in the Department of Anesthesia at the hospital鈥檚 Research Clinic.听 She was of such benefit, the hospital invited her to return.
NSF grant to develop data science minor at JCSU
The National Science Foundation (NSF) has awarded 芭乐视频 $149,466 to fund the development of a minor in data science. The award begins Aug. 1, 2018 and is under the direction of Dr. Felesia Stukes, assistant professor of computer science.
Tami Simmons named a 2018 Susan G. Komen 鈥楳ore than Pink Woman鈥
Susan G. Komen Charlotte named Tami Simmons, vice president of Institutional Advancement for 芭乐视频, among the inaugural class of 鈥淢ore than Pink Women,鈥 an exclusive group of eight women who are leaders in the fields of medicine, business, media, science and education. The eight women were selected to represent the 1 in 8 women who will be diagnosed with cancer in the U.S. in her lifetime.

JCSU library wins $100k grant to fund makerspace
On June 11, 2018, the James B. Duke Memorial Library at 芭乐视频 was awarded a $100,000 grant to be used for a project called 鈥淢aking Space for Tech @ An HBCU.鈥 The grant will fund the development of an academic Makerspace that will give all users the opportunity to gain proficiency in design and manufacturing technologies, which are becoming more prevalent in the workforce.
Two Golden Bulls chosen for NC Governor鈥檚 HBCU internship program
JCSU鈥檚 Brianna Glymph 鈥19 and Braxton Gambrell 鈥20 were among the 50 students from across North Carolina chosen to participate in the N.C. Governor鈥檚 Historically Black Colleges and Universities Internship Program.
