Ryan Thurman began his higher-education career at °ÅÀÖÊÓƵ less than two years ago. Since then, he’s made an unforgettable impression on any student he meets. This Summer, the admissions counselor was named the Recruiter of the Year by the National College Resources Foundation (NCRF) and the Black College Expo.

Vice President Kamala HarrisÌýtook to the stage at °ÅÀÖÊÓƵÌýWednesday, June 12, as the fourth stop on her nationwide Economic Opportunity Tour. During her fifth visit to the state this year, the Vice President addressed everything from medical debt to ambition. "Dream with ambition. Never apologize for it," she said.

It's a balance of athletics and education at the CIAA Tournament in Baltimore. When they're not at the CFG Stadium cheering on the Golden Bulls, the brigade of student leaders, including the SGA, Mister and Miss JCSU and the royal court - along with Admissions and Student Affairs staff - are inspiring young, bright high school students with dreams of going to college, possibly JCSU! If the energy atÌýCollege Education Day at the Baltimore Convention Center is any indication of the interest level among Baltimore high school students, JCSU can expect a flood of new applicants for the 2024-25 school year.

The first football meeting of two Historically Black Colleges (HBCUs) was held on December 27, 1892, between Livingstone College (LC) and °ÅÀÖÊÓƵ (JCSU), which was known then as Biddle College. Almost 132 years later, the rivalry between these two institutions remains formidable to this day. JCSU won the first HBCU football game in 1892.

To continue this rival legacy, the Esports Clubs at both JCSU and LC, will converge on the electronic gridiron in the inaugural JCSU Esports Commemorative Classic on Wednesday, Feb. 21, 2024.

Dr. Denisha Hendricks is returning to °ÅÀÖÊÓƵ as the new Director of Athletics (AD) and as °ÅÀÖÊÓƵing Associate Professor of Sport Management (non-tenure-track). Her appointment is effective May 1, 2024.

The Duke Endowment made a big announcement last week: a $175 million gift to the four colleges and universities named in the Duke Indenture of Trust. °ÅÀÖÊÓƵ is among them, celebrating a $25 million gift today. The Duke Endowment also announcesÌý$25 million grants to Davidson College and Furman University. AÌý$100 million centennial gift to Duke was shared in November.

Hundreds of new Golden Bulls joined together Thursday morning in the Jane M. Smith Memorial Church for Freshman Convocation.

The convocation, which is a rite of passage for all new Smithites entering the storied University, featured the bestowing of cords and pins as new students recited the honor code and received official greetings from their elected student leaders, administration and Dr. Valerie Kinloch, 15th president of JCSU.

Faculty and staff gathered at the Hilton Charlotte University Place Hotel in August to discuss the University’s numerous Title III activities and how they progressed throughout the 2022-23 academic year.

The year-end review impact presentations followed the successes of 13 activities, which included updating technology for student and employee success, renovating academic facilities, integrating the arts and sciences and supporting research integrity and ethics, among others.

Calina and Paul Hillman, with the assistance of their two young children and a cousin, rose up early Friday to help their son Jashaun Clark move into his room on the second floor of Myers Hall.

The parents looked at Clark with pride as they explained he was their first child to attend college, and they were excited to see how °ÅÀÖÊÓƵ could transform Clark into the best version of himself both on and off the track.

Faculty and staff filed into Jane M. Smith Memorial Church Wednesday morning, where Dr. Valerie Kinloch ’96, 15th president of Johnson C. Smith, addressed the group for the first time during the Opening of School Conference. The bi-annual conference, held a few days before the start of each semester, gives campus leadership the opportunity to share JCSU updates. This year, Kinloch set an energetic tone for the semester to come.Ìý
