JCSU closed out Black History Month this year with a performance and discussion at a Lyceum event on leap day.Ìý

The event in Sara Gambrell Auditorium in Biddle Hall brought back several talented alumni who came to entertain and educate JCSU students.Ìý

The CIAA Basketball Tournament on Thursday, Feb. 29 centered on women: powerful, purposeful, strong and centered. The day began with a burst of optimism at the CIAA Women's Empowerment Luncheon and ended, for the Golden Bulls, on the court.

It's a balance of athletics and education at the CIAA Tournament in Baltimore. When they're not at the CFG Stadium cheering on the Golden Bulls, the brigade of student leaders, including the SGA, Mister and Miss JCSU and the royal court - along with Admissions and Student Affairs staff - are inspiring young, bright high school students with dreams of going to college, possibly JCSU! If the energy atÌýCollege Education Day at the Baltimore Convention Center is any indication of the interest level among Baltimore high school students, JCSU can expect a flood of new applicants for the 2024-25 school year.

°ÅÀÖÊÓƵ has been the recipient of more than $100,000 in Home Depot Retool Your School grant funds. The Division of Student Affairs and Enrollment Management is looking to continue its winning streak by placing in the top five once again during this year’s Retool Your School contest.

The contest begins Monday, Feb. 26, and is expected to support 30 campuses with grants ranging from $40,000 to $150,000 per school. This is the 15th year that the Home Depot has offered the contest to HBCUs to offer much-needed financial support to often underfunded colleges and universities.

°ÅÀÖÊÓƵ students, like students around the country, benefit from the federal TRiO Student Support Services Program. The program provides various services for students from disadvantaged backgrounds, including low-income students and students with disabilities, as well as first-generation college students.

The °ÅÀÖÊÓƵ Debate Team recently participated in the North Carolina Independent Colleges and Universities (NCICU) annual debate tournament at the North Carolina Legislative Complex in Raleigh.

The team was presented with 10 unprecedented cases based on legal issues currently in litigation over the ethical issues of artificial intelligence and cybersecurity liabilities and responsibilities. Some of these issues included AI in art and entertainment, digital deep fakes and avatars, security liabilities in Big Tech and more.Ìý

The first football meeting of two Historically Black Colleges (HBCUs) was held on December 27, 1892, between Livingstone College (LC) and °ÅÀÖÊÓƵ (JCSU), which was known then as Biddle College. Almost 132 years later, the rivalry between these two institutions remains formidable to this day. JCSU won the first HBCU football game in 1892.

To continue this rival legacy, the Esports Clubs at both JCSU and LC, will converge on the electronic gridiron in the inaugural JCSU Esports Commemorative Classic on Wednesday, Feb. 21, 2024.

Food, Language, History: It was a celebration of Afro Latino history and culture on the campus of Johnson College Smith University, February 2024. The City of Charlotte, Fiestas Patrias and °ÅÀÖÊÓƵ sponsored the event to commemorate Black History Month in the Latino and Black communities.
