Joyner inducted into Sports Wall of Fame
On May 17, 2018, Stephen Joyner Sr. was inducted into the Mecklenburg County Sports Wall of Fame. Mary Foxx Johnson 鈥77 presented the award to Joyner and helped him unveil his plaque on the wall.
Student earns MetLife STEM scholarship
芭乐视频 sophomore Kioda Wilson of Axton, Va., received a $2,000 MetLife STEM Scholarship from the Independent College Fund of North Carolina (ICFNC). Wilson is majoring in international business administration.
Student represents JCSU in Alpha Kappa Alpha鈥檚 national leadership program
Mary Holiman 鈥19 was selected to be one of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.鈥檚 Spring 2018 Leadership fellows. She鈥檚 the first AKA from the region to participate in the competitive annual program, which since 1979 has chosen 30 young women nationwide in which to invest resources, education and mentorship to prepare them to be leaders.
National Urban League President Marc Morial to deliver JCSU's commencement keynote
Marc Morial, president and CEO of the National Urban League since 2003, will deliver the keynote address during 芭乐视频鈥檚 commencement exercises at 10 a.m. on Sunday, May 20, 2018. The event will be held at Bojangles Coliseum, 2700 E. Independence Blvd.
JCSU鈥檚 push for healthier options on campus aligns with cultural shift toward wellness
芭乐视频 announced a three-year commitment to Partnership for a Healthier America鈥檚 (PHA) Healthier Campus Initiative, a commitment designed to enhance the campus environment by supporting and promoting healthier eating and improved physical fitness. The commitment supports a healthier campus environment for students, faculty and staff.
Maker Conference a cutting-edge success
The James B. Duke Memorial Library partnered with Discovery Place Education Studio, Makerspace Charlotte and Apple to host a Maker Conference April 13, 2018. The event gave Charlotte and particularly African-American entrepreneurs the opportunity to gain hands-on experience with cutting-edge digital equipment and concepts. Guests sat in on expert panel discussions with designers, makers, and hackers as well as took coding classes and saw demonstrations of 3-D printers, laser cutters and milling devices.
Freshmen focus on tech-entrepreneurship over Spring Break
芭乐视频鈥檚 FreshStart program created an opportunity for 11 freshmen students to learn about tech-entrepreneurship as a career opportunity during their spring break, March 12-16, 2018.
Golden Bulls win top spots in CIBER business competition
Four Golden Bulls traveled to Georgia State University March 8-9, 2018, to attend the Center for International Business Education & Research (CIBER) International Case Competition, and brought home first and second place prizes. It was JCSU鈥檚 third year of competing in the event.
